Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Savior
and LORD of the Universe issued a
personal invitation of salvation to
each and every one of us,
then
He instructs the responsive ones to
come and "learn from Me." That excites
me and I'm sure it excites you! His
instructions are plain, simple and
addressed to new believers. As a matter
of fact in verse 25b it says, "You have
hidden these things from the wise and
prudent and have revealed them to
babes." Being intelligent won't keep us
out of heaven, but pride will. Jesus
wants the babes, those who are humble,
dependent upon Him, and teachable. Are
you one of the teachable ones? If so,
what does that require? It requires
obedience, which is the meaning of the
yoke. We must be obedient to His
command to learn.
1 Pet. 2:2 says, "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that you may grow thereby."
Desire for the Word of God should be as natural for the Christian as it is for an infant to desire milk. Perhaps you initially had a desire for the Word but over time and through lack of discipline and time management you lost your desire for it. If so, repent and return to your first love. Spend time in the Word daily and you can cultivate a strong appetite for it. Quality of time spent reading is more important than the length of time spent. Go for it.
Lastly, what else do we learn from this lesson? That the Holy Spirit is listening to our hearts, He understands our concerns no matter how big or small they may seem, and He stands ready to speak to us in a very personal way at the critical junctures of our life. He is our personal Counselor, leading and guiding us into all truth. (John 16:13)
